July Update

Greetings!
We hope the summer is treating you well. Here's the TLDR snippet: renovations are underway, historic and renovation photos are attached, we didn't manage to rescue the front yard from development, and there's a recurring monthly potluck this Wednesday at 6! Remodeling underway!

We pulled up the carpet in the 1991 addition to find that there was only particleboard underneath. So I sought out some reclaimed maple from an old furniture factory in Lenoir, NC and had it installed and refinished both downstairs in the apartment and upstairs in the conservatory.

It turned far better than I had imagined (baseboards and finishing touches remain)! Also if you're in the Asheville area, I have flooring installers/refinishers to recommend -- they did a great job, worked very quickly, AND they were the lowest bid I received.

House History

We've made an effort to greet and introduce ourselves to passing neighbors. One such passerby facilitated an electronic introduction to a childhood resident of our home from the 1940's to the 1960's. He kindly passed along photos and a history of the house and neighborhood. That document and a select few photos are attached if it interests you.

Front Yard Development

Many of you know that we were given the opportunity to rescue the subdivided lots that were formerly the front yard. We were under contract for about two months, after a couple extensions, but despite my optimism, we just weren't able to secure the necessary funds. Clearing and construction have not yet begun, but is impending. We will be saddened when they come for the enormous old trees.

Upcoming event: Monthly Potluck

Monthly recurring potluck at our new home in West Asheville every third Wednesday **except July will be the SECOND Wednesday**

Rain or shine: if weather permits, we'll be outside. Otherwise, we'll bring the festivities indoors. Bring a dish to share and your beverage of choice. Feel free to bring a friend, neighbor, or Tinder date!

Potluck repeats every THIRD Wednesday at 6 unless informed otherwise (like this month - it's the 2nd Wednesday)!.
