Holding Space
for Living and Dying

Our Mission
"To improve the quality of life
of anyone with a terminal illness
and their caregivers,
who need support to meet basic needs,
connect to community,
and create meaning."

Next steps:
Meet with Board Members to establish our programs, policies, and procedures
Articles of Incorporation with the State and IRS

Become a nonprofit.
While we have the requisite number of Board Members to file for 501c3,
we would love to have a diverse, vibrant group for the founding board to bring the project to life. If you have interest or experience, please contact Gabriel at gabriel.inton@gmail.com

Field Trip! Our housemates Eve & Yvette, and Gabriel relax in the gazebo at Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain.

April Potluck

Our next community potluck is Wednesday, April 17th, from 6-9pm at our home at 34 Blue Ridge Avenue, Asheville. Bring a dish, a guest, but please leave pets at home. Join a mix of neighbors, friends, and people interested in or involved with end of life work, and colleagues, as we share a meal and form and strengthen connections.

Erik and Yvette sauntered over to the French Broad River while waiting for made-to-order donuts from our friends at Hole on a busy Saturday morning.
Spring is in full swing, in the yard, and in the sunroom with this blooming orchid.

Food for thought

Katherine Min was a writing professor at UNCA who last month passed away from cancer. While we had never met her, her words speak to us, and perhaps can give insight and perspective on our work here.

"There are a lot more of the dead than of the living, and contemplating the crossing from one side of the stream to the other, as something statistically imminent rather than a distant abstraction, gives one pause."
from Writing When Your Life Depends on It

"So, while actual death is, in fact, material—my body will have to be dealt with; my things sorted through, dispatched—the anticipation of death is obscure. We cannot imagine an end to our own perceiving, our own self—mind and body—funneling down to nothing."
from On Things

While we will never truly know what it's like until we ourselves reach that point, our hope is that we can hold space and show up for each other when that time comes, in whatever ways we need for one another.
