Since getting the property in May 2018, we have put forth the intention that this would be a home that people who were dying would choose to spend the rest of their lives in. This stemmed from Gabriel’s experience as a hospice nurse, and the idea that life, and the end of life, doesn’t have to be a medical phenomenon, and doesn’t have to be in an institution, if one didn’t want it to be. Erik’s passion for making a home that is comfortable and inviting fit well with this intention.
While we are still looking at models of what that could look like, and next steps in forming a non profit 501c3 to support it, our hearts remain open to what care and support within a community can be, from our current roommates, to our neighbors, and the people working in the end of life who use the space for meetings.
